Tony Jarman Leaves Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet

October 20, 2007 By: Aaron Swain Category: Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, Tony Jarman

I’m shocked….

From a rather short email update from the group:

“Date: October 19, 2007
Tony Jarman leaves the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet. A solo tour is slated to beginin 2008.”

I can only hope that further information will be released…
Tony’s a great tenor, but hasn’t he tried a solo career before? Ah well.

Best of luck to both parties involved…

L5′s New Promo Pic and Other Things

June 01, 2007 By: Aaron Swain Category: Josh Cobb, Legacy Five, SG Artists, SG Music, Tony Jarman

Well, the boys finally changed the pic. It’s not up on the site yet, but it is in their e-letters. I was beginning to wonder if they ever would. I personally thought leaving the old one for so long was a bit morbid, but given how their site used to act up on a regular basis, I’m not surprised that it was a long time in coming.
This one looks better than the other one; I hope they use it as the cover for their upcoming Know So Salvation album, which I’m looking forward to for two reasons:
1. I wanna hear how they’re gonna sound without any Roger songs, solos, or piano playing. It may not change much in the piano arena; Tim Parton is an excellent ivory tickler and is right on par with the groups high standard that Bennett set.
2. They’re supposed to have a “new version” (as Scott Fowler puts it) of I Stand Redeemed, the group’s first major hit, which should have been their first #1. They haven’t done it much at concerts since Josh Cobb left (I believe they only did it a VERY few times with Tony Jarman). It will be interesting to see how it will sound. I’d guess they lowered the key for Frank Seaman’s voice, since he’s not as high as Cobb was and even Cobb would get beet-red whenever he sang this. New orchestration will probably be used also. We had a discussion over at forums.christianity.com about it, and a bunch of interesting ideas came up about how it might sound; heck, one person (I think it was Daniel Mount?) suggested that they might even lower it down to a bass solo. Wow, what could be, what could be…
