Pray For "Big" Jim Hamill

October 30, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Big Jim Hamill, Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG History, SG Industry News, SG Music, The Kingsmen

It may not be long before we lose another hero.

Jim Hamill, MC for The Kingsmen in their glory days, is currently bedridden in a nursing home. He has fallen 100 pounds, and it doesn’t look good for the Master MC. Please keep him in your prayers.

Pray for Valor

October 05, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG Artists, Valor

I was looking on a message board earlier, and happened to run across a post about the trio Valor. Can’t get into all the details, all I can say is some very unfortunate things are happening and the group as we know it is no more. Rest assured, as far as I know, nobody is mad at anybody and nothing un-Christlike has happened.

Please keep these guys in your prayers… If I read anything else that you can be in prayer about as far as this situation and it won’t spread gossip, I will post more

God bless you, Valor.

News Roundup

August 23, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, Palmetto State Quartet, Prayer Requests, Roy Webb, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, The Dixie Echoes

Well, with school starting back up, me becoming a freshman, orientation, shopping and the like have kept me from blogging these past few days, so let me get a rundown of these news items I’ve missed.

1. Burman Porter is leaving Palmetto State? Here’s hoping the rumour is untrue, but back problems can have a hand in taking talent off the road (Gene McDonald, anyone?)

2. Roy Webb’s father passed away a couple of days ago. I actually knew this but didn’t blog it. Nice to see that EHSSQ sent out a newsletter about it. Hmm… maybe this will stop the rumour mill about Webb’s departure… Please keep him and the family in your prayers.

3. The Dixie Echoes’ bus fire. Man, what a shock. Thankfully, the only thing lost was some merchandise…

And of course, we can’t forget to count down to NQC. By my watch, (or, rather, by Chuck Peters’ “Days till NQC” clock), it is 16 days.

Glenn Dustin To Have Surgery

August 14, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Legacy Five, Prayer Requests, SG Artists

From the latest L5 e-newsletter:

Please keep Glenn Dustin in your prayers as he goes in for surgery Tuesday morning at 7 am. He will undergo a laparoscopic surgical procedure called fundoplication to correct a severe acid reflux problem.

Glenn’s recovery time should be just a few days and he should be able to travel with the group by the weekend if everything goes according to plan. Thanks for your prayers and you can send well wishes by email to glenn@legacyfive.com or by mail to the L5 offices at 128 Holiday Ct., Ste. 109, Franklin, TN 37067

Pray For Scott McDowell

August 11, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG Artists

Just wanted to let everyone know to pray for Scott McDowell, pianist for Brian Free & Assurance. His mother passed away and he is currently at home but will be back on the road soon. He is only 20, and I can’t imagine losing my mom so young. Please keep him in your prayers.

Whitey Gleason Passes Away

July 01, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG History

Another legend goes home.

According to a post on the Singing News forums:

J. M. “Whitey” Gleason passed away Saturday, June 30 at 3:16AM. He had battled lymphoma for over 3 years.

Whitey was best known in the Gospel World for writing hundreds of songs recorded by many of the major groups and for his tenure as the pianist for the Blackwood Brothers Quartet. Some of Whitey’s most popular compositions were “His Grace Reaches Me”, “Walk, Talk and Sing”, “He’s My Dearest Friend”, “At the Altar”, and “Nobody”. He sang or played for the Gospelaires, the Sooner State Quartet, the Blackwood Brothers Quartet, and his own Jubilee Quartet. For many years the Jubilee Quartet headquartered in Bethany, Oklahoma where Whitey owned and operated a successful music store.

As a young man he became an ordained minister and was a pastor and evangelist for several years. In his later years, Whitey was an educator and was widely recognized for songs he wrote to help students learn and remember key principles of math, language and geography.

Whitey is a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame as a member of the Blackwood Brothers, and he received the Living Legend Award at the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion.

Whitey was born on May 18, 1932 in Kingman, KS.

June 21, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Danny Funderburk, Prayer Requests, SG Artists

Whoa…

May 29, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, Prayer Requests, Roy Webb, SG Industry News

Maybe it’s old news for some, but Roy Webb is no longer the piano player for EHSSQ. I knew that his Dad was sick and all and that the situation was bad in more ways than one, but man what a shock! Roy was a highlight at every concert and I’m sure gonna miss him. Godspeed to Roy as he tends to these matters and to EHSSQ as they search for a new pianist.
