Update on the Bowling Family

July 02, 2010 By: Aaron Category: Mike and Kelly Bowling, Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, The Bowling Family

Jason Crabb stated that Mike & Kelly are being released from the hospital to go home tomorrow. Kelly will not have surgery, but will be in a body cast for three months. Mike is improving, but it will be a long road, and everyone else is banged up but OK.

The situation could have been a whole lot worse, so all things considered, this is great news. Please keep them in your prayers.

Bowling Family Involved In Bus Wreck

July 01, 2010 By: Aaron Category: Mike and Kelly Bowling, Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, The Bowling Family

This news story states that the group was involved in a serious wreck this afternoon near Charlotte, NC. Mike Bowling and one other person have been airlifted to the local hospital, and it’s been reported that Mike is in critical condition. Terah Crabb Penhollow sustained a broken arm. There is no word on the others as of yet.

Please keep the group in your prayers. I will send updates as I receive them.

Update: Reports have come in that Mike Bowling is alert and talking. PTL!

Further update: From SGReporter:

The latest report from family members says Mike Bowling and six year old daughter, Katelanne.. appear to have sustained the most serious injuries as a result of a bus crash earlier today near Charlotte, NC. Reports say they were on the side of the bus that took the brunt of the impact,.. and were thrown forward. Family member Brian Lawing told our reporter: “Mike has a skull fracture, broken wrist, and lacerations. Kelly has a broken or crushed vertebrae and possible broken ankle. Katelanne’s collar bone is broken in two places and she has a deep laceration on her face. The piano player has a broken ankle. The rest of the family/band/crew are all okay. Shaken up and bruised but praise God they are okay.” Mike and Katelanne were airlifted to a nearby medical facility,.. the others were transported by ambulance to the same hospital. All involved are expected to make a complete recovery.

Police officers working the accident scene released a statement tonight saying: “A tractor trailer was stopped in traffic in the northbound lane of I-85 when the tour bus — also traveling north — hit the tractor trailer in the rear. The tractor trailer then hit a box truck in front of it.” The Bowling Family was enroute to a concert appearance in Indian Land, South Carolina.

Update On Tony & TaRanda Greene

August 25, 2009 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, The Greenes

Earlier today, a surgery happened that has been a prayer request for a long time. Tony and TaRanda went in for a kidney transplant that would give Tony one of TaRanda’s kidney’s to replace his barely functioning one. It was just posted on Facebook that the transplant was a success and both are recovering nicely. Praise God!

Pray For Gary Casto

August 12, 2009 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG Music, Tribute Quartet

From the Tribute Quartet newsletter:

Gary Casto, manger and lead vocalist of Tribute Quartet, will undergo surgery on Thursday to remove a kidney stone that is embedded in his kidney. Gary experienced some problems on the road last weekend, prompting a visit to the emergency room at Lebanon, Mo., while the group was there to perform on the Brumley Sing. He was able to finish the weekend, but after returning home was admitted to the hospital for more extensive tests which showed the kidney stone had become impacted in the kidney, causing the kidney to cease function.

On Tuesday, doctors performed a surgical procedure to correct part of the problem, and on Thursday, they will do a second procedure that will hopefully completely resolve the issue.

Tribute Quartet requests your prayers for Gary as he undergoes the second procedure tomorrow morning. He plans to miss no tour dates.

Get-well cards or notes can be sent to: Tribute Quartet, P. O. Box 454, Hendersonville, TN, 37077 or office@tributequartet.com.

Prayers and hopes that all goes well.

Update: Tribute’s baritone/pianist Josh Singletary says via Facebook that Gary has come out of surgery and is in recovery. His doctor said he could leave this afternoon.

August 10, 2009 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music

From Todd Nelon:

This is a very sad day for me. Dana Younce Willis daughter of George Younce died of a heart attack today. Dana was a good friend that I will miss greatly. I had the priviledge to spend alot of time with Dana and her family and what a loving family it is. Please pray for this family and especially for her husband Robbie whom I played in the Nelon band with. I know the depths of love that Robbie had for Dana.

My prayers go out to the family. Especially pray for her husband, as I understand he was out of town when this occured.

From a Dove Brothers newsletter sent out today:

Official Press Release (Bladenboro, North Carolina)
Dove Brothers

Early this morning we received a call that our piano player, Jerry Kelso’s son was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Brandon Kelso, age 22 was riding on his motorcycle and a car pulled out in front of him. It was said that the road conditions were wet which may have lead to the accident. This happened in Kentucky where Brandon recently moved. He was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina which is where the funeral services will be held.

Please keep Jerry and all of his family in your prayers at this time. The arrangements are pending at this time but we will update everyone as to what the funeral arrangements will be as soon as we hear.

You can send cards to:

I do not know what to say other than pray. I can hardly imagine losing a friend or brother so tragically and suddenly, and my heart goes out to Jerry and the rest of the Kelsos.

News Roundup

May 30, 2008 By: Aaron Category: Greater Vision, Lari Goss, Legacy Five, Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, The Dove Brothers

My take on some news items of interest these past couple of days:

Lari Goss Diagnosed With Cancer: I had heard rumblings of this, and a short bit in Greater Vision’s newsletter today confirmed it. He was unable to be in the studio with them recently, and according to Gerald:

“Our friend, producer / arranger, Lari Goss was not able to be in the studio with us, so we were able to use video-conferencing technology to allow him to be involved in the sessions. Our engineer, Bob Williams, was able to provide Lari with the same “audio mix” we were hearing in the studio, and we were able to hear Lari speak back to us through our headphones. We also set up a lap-top computer in the studio so we could see Lari, and he could see us as we recorded. We called it “Virtual Lari”, and it was an amazing experience!…. Lari was recently diagnosed with a rare form of Tracheal Cancer, and is currently undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatments at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville.”

Dove Brothers Raise Prices On CDs
: Hoo boy…. I could tell when this was announced that an onslaught of angry fans would show up, and they did. However, a smart move on DBQ’s part in sending out an email later that only their online store prices would rise, not those at retailers or their product table. They are also implementing digital downloads of their complete discography, as is Legacy Five.

Pray For Steven Curtis Chapman

May 22, 2008 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG And Other Genres

I was informed that Steven Curtis Chapman’s five-year old daughter was killed yesterday after being hit by a truck that Chapman’s 15-year old son was driving. It was accidental, and she was rushed to Vanderbilt hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A situation like this hits very close to home, since I got my Learner’s Permit only yesterday. Please keep the family in your prayers…

Dottie Rambo Killed…. 1934-2008

May 11, 2008 By: Aaron Category: Prayer Requests, SG Artists, SG History, SG Industry News, SG Music

Just received a Myspace bulletin from Ernie Haase & Signature Sound that Dottie’s bus was hit by a storm, either last night or this morning, and she and her bus driver were killed. Very shocked right now. Please keep the family in your prayers….

Update: I’m extremely shocked at this news. Mrs. Rambo was certainly an SG legend and will be sorely missed. I’ve enjoyed hearing tunes she penned such as “The Holy Hills Of Heaven Call Me” and “He Looked Beyond My Faults.” I have not read the book Driving Miss Dottie, but in light of this unfortunate event, I am going to try to get a copy.

Once again, please keep the family in your prayers at this time.
