Doug Harrison, author of the well-known SG blog Averyfineline is in the midst of a book project, and is collecting responses about the Southern Gospel genre through a survey. It is open to fans, bloggers, and artists alike.

Like him or not, Doug raises some very interesting questions in the survey. I’ve already taken it, so join the 250+ people that have as well here.

Gaither Vocal Band Reunited Tour / Swain’s Musings 2nd Anniversary

April 20, 2009 By: Aaron Swain Category: Bill Gaither, Blogging Community, Gaither Vocal Band, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, Special Announcements

According to a press release on Gaither.com, the new Gaither Vocal Band will be taking a solo tour starting in September, emphasizing the fact that three of the five were with the group once before. There are about four dates up at the moment, with more to follow.

I’m hoping the tour will be coming to VA so I can catch a GVB-only concert. The GVB hasn’t done anything as headliner group since probably before I was born, aside from an occasional video like Give It Away. It’s been mostly the Homecoming circuit for them, with a smattering of events with just one or two other groups. Count me among those who have been waiting for something like this for a good long while.

Now, on a totally different note, yesterday marked the two year anniversary of when I started this blog in 2007. It’s been quite a thrill watching the opportunities and readership that God has (and continues to) bless me with through this blog. Thank you all for reading!

The Dove Brothers Have A Surprise…

March 17, 2009 By: Aaron Swain Category: Blogging Community, SG Artists, SG Industry News, SG Music, The Dove Brothers

… but they aren’t “letting the cat out of the bag yet,” says McCray Dove. He says it will be an exciting thing that other artists have thought about doing lately as well.

My guess? The Dove Brothers will start touring with a live band. With all the buzz about the Band Of Gold sometimes touring with Gold City, as well as EHSSQ’s recent gig with a band, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. It’s also interesting to note that McCray’s previous post was saying something to the affect of needing more touring SG groups with bands.

Hm…

News Roundup

November 03, 2008 By: Aaron Swain Category: Blogging Community, Liberty Quartet, SG Artists, SG Music

Liberty Quartet Adds New Member: Keith Waggoner, tenor singer for the quartet, reports that former baritone/pianist Doran Ritchey will be dropping the baritone from that title and focusing solely on piano. He’s a very talented keyboardist and will do very well. The group is adding a new baritone singer, Jordan Cragun, who has a rich family background in SG that Keith discusses in the post.
Be sure to watch the video featuring Jordan. He blends very well with the group. He will start traveling with them fulltime in January 2009.

(As a side note, a mega-review of Liberty Quartet’s newest album, Amazed is in the works. Be on the lookout!)

New Blog: Just wanted to get the word out about a brand-new blog called the VA Southern Gospel Blog. It’s run by my friend Jeremy Bell and, as the first post says, will be “a plethora of concert reviews, VA artist CD reviews, and a whole host of other things that will be brought out in the future. Join us as the team at VA Southern Gospel keeps you informed of what is happening with the Southern Gospel music scene in Virginia.”

To Arms!

August 27, 2007 By: Aaron Swain Category: Blogging Community

Come, all ye forum-goers, to what Daniel Mount calls “the biggest can of worms ever opened” on this particular forum! It could get ugly!

The question: how do you feel about AVFL, better known as Averyfineline.

My answer: I love it. Avery tells it like it is about everything, no matter how brutal the truth is or how the SG community will react. I guess you could say that he ain’t afraid to be politically incorrect.

Now, I realize many won’t share my point of view, but I’m here to tell you that I support Avery’s site 110%.
