Best Bass And Tenor?

November 06, 2007 By: Aaron Category: SG Music

We’ve had two seperate threads on the Singing News Forums recently: one asking who the lowest bass today is and one asking who the best “singing” bass and tenor are. I’ve had some good ideas and I figured it would be good to post, so here goes:

Lowest current bass: I’m gonna go with David Hester. I was absolutely blown away by his rendition of “Walk That Lonesome Road”, and the guy just keeps getting better.

Honorable mention would be Glenn Dustin. That guy is probably the most dedicated to improving himself than the others today. Don’t believe me? Pick up a copy of Legacy Five’s new Christmas CD, and listen to his delivery on “Do You Hear What I Hear”. Probably the warmest solo I’ve ever heard from him.

Best “singing” bass: The definition of “singing” on the thread was without growling and vocal fry and all that. I nominated Eric Bennett. He can sing a great, smooth solo and still get down low like the rest. Now that Triumphant has hit the road traveling, he’s giving the other basses a run for the money.

Honorable mention: Once again Glenn Dustin. See above description.

Best “singing” tenor: I went with Steve Ladd for this one. Even despite his recent throat problems that made him go on “vocal rest”, he still delivered with as much grace as ever in Gold City’s performances at NQC.

Honorable mention: Brent Mitchell. Mercy’s Mark’s current lineup is absolutely solid, and a big part of that is the great tenor from Brent. The big chorus on “Something’s Happening” was awesome and he just blew the top off of it! I can’t wait to hear what future efforts from he and the rest of the guys have to bring to the table.

Well, there’s my take on the threads. Feel free to scoff and disagree all you want.

Say What?!?!?!?!

November 02, 2007 By: Aaron Category: Ernie Haase and Signature Sound, SG Artists, SG Music

This was my reaction after reading a post on Ernie Haase & Signature Sound’s message board from the Head Honcho Himself (Ernie Haase) saying that their next project won’t be released till Fall 2009.

2009?!?!?! I had originally heard Fall 2008 so I’m hoping that it was just a typo on his part. That’s a pretty long time between projects. Ah well. We can only hope…
